SECTION 3: INDIVIDUAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS (IEP)

Attendance at IEP Meetings: When parents do not attend meetings

The agreement to excuse a member of the IEP team members from participation in an IEP meeting requires the excused member to submit, in writing, his or her input into the IEP development prior to the meeting.

Should the Vermont special education regulations include a specific timeline, for example, one week or more, for receipt of the written input?

Yes: 50 No: 1 Don't Know: 8

Comments:

Yes, One week is good unless there is an emergency and then that should be in writing.

So it's not so one-sided.

2 weeks would make more sense.

A week is a good idea.

If the regulation is going to allow this, then I think a week or more would be acceptable for all involved. The hard part would be the sharing of a specific intent at the time of the meeting. Also that persons input of the child on a more personal level would be missing. As a parent I value the opportunity to hear each team member share about my child.
