FITP Early Intervention & Your Rights

As a service to the community, VPIC is proud to host the following information about the Family, Infant & Toddler Program of Vermont.

Children develop differently and at their own pace. The period from birth to age three is a critical time in a child's development and an important time for parents to have accurate information and consistent support close at hand.

The Family, Infant and Toddler Program can help.

The Family, Infant and Toddler Program recognizes the importance of early intervention services for young children who have a delay in development or a health condition that may lead to a delay in development. You and your family know your child best and are the primary decision-makers for your child. You are in the driver's seat when it comes to identifying the services and supports required by your child and family. In partnership with you, the Family, Infant and Toddler Program brings together resources to meet your child and family's needs.

The Family, Infant and Toddler Program offers
you opportunities to:

  • talk with other parents in your community
  • consult with child development providers
  • learn about the range of resources available

The Family, Infant and Toddler Program has a responsibility
to protect families' rights.

As a parent of a child who is being considered for eligibility under the Family, Infant and Toddler Program of Vermont or who is receiving early intervention services, you have certain rights which are protected by state and federal law.

This series of fact sheets explain these rights. The community resource parent or others on the core team will explain these rights and will be available to answer any questions you may have.
