| VPIC Programs | FITP Glossary of Terms As a service to the community, VPIC is proud to host the following information about the Family, Infant & Toddler Program of Vermont. ELIGIBLE CHILD: a child, birth to age three years old. CORE TEAM: a team made up of you (the parent(s)), your family's service coordinator, an early educator or other individual who represents your school district, your child's early interventionist, a consultant from the Vermont Department of Health - Children with Special Health Needs and the community resource parent. IDENTIFICATION: the process schools and agencies must go through to find children who may have special needs and may be in need of early intervention services. EVALUATION & ASSESSMENT: a process for gathering information to see how your child is growing and developing and if he or she may be eligible for early intervention services. EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES: services provided to babies, toddlers and families through the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). Early intervention services may include home visits, special instruction, speech pathology and audiology, occupational and physical therapy, psychological services, health services necessary for the child to benefit from other early intervention services and service coordination. SERVICE COORDINATOR: the individual who arranges, or who may assist you in coordinating your child's services (Parents can choose to be their own service coordinator.) HOST AGENCY: the location of the Family, Infant and Toddler Program in your area. PART C REGIONAL ADVISORY TEAM: a team made up of parents and others from community agencies and schools. (This team advises the core team.) The regional advisory team in your area may be part of the region's Early Childhood Council or other networking early childhood team. INDIVIDUALIZED FAMILY SERVICE PLAN (IFSP): a written plan, designed by you and others, describing the services your child and family needs. PART C (INFANTS AND TODDLERS PROGRAM INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES EDUCATION ACT): a federal program designed for children birth to three years of age who need early intervention services because they are experiencing developmental delays or have a diagnosed physical or mental condition that has a high probability of resulting in a developmental delay. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Developed by the Family, Infant and Toddler Program of Vermont in cooperation with the Vermont Parent Information Center, 1994.
