A Parent's Guide to the Special Education Process

A Parent's Guide to the Special Education Process has arrived. This 40-page booklet contains information, checklists, sample letters, and advice from parents. If you are just beginning or are a veteran, the Guide can help you sharpen you skills and feel better prepared to participate on your child's IEP team. Here's an example of advice from a parent: Make sure there is time on the agenda to bring up your priorities. If someone is taking minutes, ask for a copy of the minutes before you leave the meeting.

There's a section on what to do if your child doesn't qualify for special education and what parents should know when their child has behavior or emotional difficulties. At the end, you'll find a glossary of terms and a list of resources to help answer your questions.

To order a copy of the Parents' Guide, you can print out a form here and mail it back to us with your payment, or contact our office. Booklets cost $10 a piece. Orders of 10 or more receive a discount. Copies of the Parent's Guide will be distributed to public libraries and organizations in every county in Vermont.
