Available Workshops

Changes to the IDEA - the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act was reauthorized in December 2004. New changes to the law will go into effect this summer. What parents and others need to know about those changes this year and next.

Navigating the Special Education Process - This workshop, which includes information on parental rights, provides parents with an overview of the special education process and their role as a parent and a team member.

IEP - A step-by-step explanation of the Individualized Education Program process will enable parents to better understand how the plan is designed to work for a child and their role as team member.

Advocating for Your Child - To help parents gain skills and information to assist them in advocating for their child in the education system and beyond, this workshop focuses on effective communication and advocacy methods and provides an overview of educational support programs, from special education to the educational support team in regular education.

Transition to Adult Life - What parents, youth, and professionals should know about planning for the transition from high school to work, postsecondary education, and life in the community for youth with special needs. Participants in this workshop will discuss things to consider in developing a transition plan while the student is in high school and how to connect to youth and adult services.
